MUSIC FOR ROMANCE & LOVE

Pam Kelly Author

My college crush told me that the right music could set the stage for whatever type of romantic encounters you wanted to have, whether you are just getting to know someone, you want to have a romantic night that might include making love, or just have sex, to get over a fight, or to propose. The lyrics do all the talking so you don’t have to say a word, and the music speaks to your heart and soul.  Sometimes you don’t even need lyrics, just the music.

There is definitely a market for wedding songs. Ribbon in the Sky alone probably made Stevie Wonder a very rich man. The same can probably be said for Whitney Houston’s I Will Always Love You.

Ever since I understood how music can enhance and dominate an experience, I have listened to music trying to categorize what mood a song would invoke.  When you google top Love Songs or Songs for Romance, a myriad of top 10/25/50/100 playlists pop up so there is no shortage to choose from.

In writing my first contemporary romance novel, Leap of Faith, I have used some reliable ‘old school’ R&B songs as well as some jazz to help create a sexy, sensual evening for the main characters. My hope is that if readers are so inclined they will create the playlist for their own fun night and let me know what songs are their favorites.

For those who have not read the book, here are the songs I included:

“The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face” by Roberta Flack

“At Last” by Etta James

“In You” by Glenn Jones

“You” by Jesse Powell

“Between the Sheets” by Four Play featuring Chaka Khan

“Feel the Fire” by Peabo Bryson

“Together Tonight” and “Sensuality” by Brian Culbertson

“Sensuality” by Brian Culbertson

“Loves Serenade” by Ramsey Lewis

So what are your favorite love songs?  Let me know!
